PRESS RELEASE

BLAIRGOWRIE & EAST PERTHSHIRE WALKING FESTIVAL

With this year’s Blairgowrie & East Perthshire Walking Festival just 5 months away, the Festival Committee are satisfied that everything is in place. Indeed so much so that for the first time, postcards have been printed and in the main, distributed all over the country. Also, the brochures are just about ready for collection and then distribution.

The festival committee, which is made up of volunteers, with the support of Strathmore & The Glens, Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust and Perth & Kinross Council has been working very hard since the last one finished and have now put the final touches to the programme. We are also very grateful to Tesco who have paid for the printing, Strathtay Scottish for their continued support, Blairgowrie & East Perthshire Tourist Association for their generous donation and to the Royal Hotel for their package deal for some of the many participants. Full details on the Festival can be found on our website, www.walkingfestival.org  which has been put together by Nick Cole.

The Festival which starts on the 29th September and runs through to the 4th October has taken on a slightly different look this year. We have extended it by one day and introduced rock climbing and mountain biking, this was done at the request of some of last year’s participants. We have also put in some new exciting routes, so you can have a nice relaxing historical walk around Coupar Angus or you can take in a strength sapping 4 munros in Upper Glenshee. So we are trying to cater for all and are able to do so by those participants who filled in evaluation forms last year. These forms are very valuable to us in many ways, telling us how the walks were, how our experienced mountain guides were, what they liked or would like to see improved.

Turning to the entertainment side, we have the Provost’s Welcome night, Ceilidh, talk by a mountaineer and mountain rescue leader, Games night, Quiz night and ending with our usual Cateran BBQ, which this year will be held at the Altamount House Hotel.

I am happy to say, that already we have had lots of enquiries and a few bookings, so people are already thinking what they are doing at the end of the autumn. So, watch this space for a regular update.
