Press Release for Immediate Release 29th MAY

Strathmore & the Glens Community Market

Saturday, 28th May - Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie

Despite a cold and wet market, trade was brisk for the thirteen stallholders at the Strathmore & the Glens Community Market held in Blairgowrie Wellmeadow on Saturday.

Sue Cole, Executive Director of Strathmore and the Glens and the Market Co-ordinator reported that the Market had a ‘Healthy Heart’ theme with plenty of information available on how to eat healthy and stay active. An information sheet produced by Strathmore & the Glens was also available at the market giving tips on how to prepare local produce.

Sue would like to say a very big thank you to Tom McDonald and the Rattray School Marching Band Corps who much to the delight of the visitors to Blairgowrie braved the rain and marched to the Wellmeadow. A big thank you is also due to the many volunteers and local police who were on hand to accompany the Band whilst they were performing.

Representatives from Friends of Blairgowrie High School were also in attendance to promote the School’s Fete on the 11th June.

Music was supplied by Grant Donald who had responded to a plea for support from local musicians.  Not only did he fill the Wellmeadow with music during the market, he was able to promote his new CD; Hills and Bens, Lochs and Glens, which is available from the Music Box at Blairgowrie Wellmeadow.

Produce ranging from local beef, lamb, butter, vegetables, herbs, fish, plants and local crafts were all available from the market, together with the first strawberries of the season. Jo of Caledonia Homebakes was sold out by lunchtime!

The next market is due to be held on Saturday, 25th June and if any local producers would like to hire a stall they should contact Sue Cole on 01828 64073, email sue@strathmoreglens.sol.co.uk. Alternatively, further details on the market and the work of Strathmore & the Glens can be found on www.strathmoreglens.org.

Strathmore & the Glens would welcome help from anyone locally who has an interest in food and community issues and would ask that you contact Sue if you have any time or experience to offer.
