Press Release for Immediate Release 24th April

Strathmore & the Glens Community Market

Saturday, 23rd April - Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie

Despite a cold and chilly start the sun came out to shine on the first community market of the season held in Blairgowrie Wellmeadow.

Sue Cole, Executive Director of Strathmore and the Glens and the Market Co-ordinator reported that the Market had an Energy Efficient theme with advisors on hand to suggest ways of reducing energy consumption and distributing free energy saving light bulbs. As produce at the community market only travels a short distance, and also using less fuel and packaging, simply shopping at the market helped to save energy!

Music was supplied by Tom Thomson of Muthill, who had responded to our plea for support from local musicians. Not only did he fill the Wellmeadow with music during the market, he provided his services free of charge, and was enjoyed by all.

Produce ranging from local beef, lamb, butter, vegetables, fish, plants and local crafts were all available from the market. The market was also the debut for Mostly Herbs from Alyth who found the market an excellent opportunity to launch their products and obtain valuable market research.

The next market is due to be held on Saturday, 28th May and if any local producers would like to hire a stall they should contact Sue Cole on 01828 64073. Alternatively, further details on the market and the work of Strathmore & the Glens can be found on www.strathmoreglens.org.

Strathmore & the Glens would welcome help from anyone locally who has an interest in food and community issues and would ask that you contact Sue if you have any time or experience to offer.
