Better Place to Live Fair

Saturday, 5th June - Blairgowrie Town hall

The Annual Better Place to Live Fair in Blairgowrie was once again well supported.  Over 30 groups and organisations participated in this year’s fair.

The Rattray School Marching Band Corps gave a first-class display of their talents and Strathmore & the Glens were very grateful for their continued support.  The Marching Band also support the Partnership by playing at the Community Markets which are held on the 4th Saturday of the month in Blairgowrie Wellmeadow.

Local Councillor Bob Ellis officially opened the fair and thanked everyone for their support.  He spoke of the East Perthshire Walking Festival for which Blairgowrie will have a great part to play and of the new book entitled ‘Discovering Meigle’ which had been produced by Sue Cole.

New participants to the fair included Hobbies of Alyth with a large selection of craft materials, DLM School of Dance, The Tunemaker, Wisecraft.  The Blairgowrie & District Marching Band also shared a table with the Rattray School Marching Band Corps.   A special thank you to Mr Scrymgeour from Meigle who played the pipes outside the Town Hall.

The display of Meigle was of great interest to many people who were unaware of the history associated with the village.

The B&T Dance Academy once again supported the fair and gave an excellent display of their skills as a prelude to their forthcoming show, ‘Ambition’, at the Whitehall Theatre in Dundee.  The Friends of B & T Dance Academy have been busy fundraising over the last year to cover the cost of the costumes.  Cathy Troupe  kept the children amused with her first-class face painting skills.

The Smoothie Bar was also popular as were the sweet Strawberries from W P Bruce of Meigle.

Feedback from the participants was very encouraging and all found it a very worthwhile opportunity to promote their services and network with other organisations.  Some were even fortunate to recruit volunteers for  their  groups.

Strathmore & the Glens would very much like to thank all those people who gave up their time to staff stalls and provide entertainment at the fair.  It was very much appreciated by all those who attended.
