Strathmore
& the Glens Rural partnership Better
Place to Live Fair - Saturday, 1st June 2002 - 10 am – 3 pm Blairgowrie Town
Hall This year’s fair is the
start of the Jubilee celebrations in Blairgowrie.
Former Runrig member Pete Wishart is to open the fair.
A one-time community worker and now North Tayside’s MP at Westminster,
Pete leads a hectic life representing his North Tayside constituents’ interest
in London. Whilst travelling
between London and Scotland takes up much of his time, Pete is often to be found
raising funds for local charities. Pete
will also launch the First Edition of the Strathmore & the Glens Directory
of Local Clubs and Organisations. This
comprehensive guide gives details of over 400 organisations in Blairgowrie and
District. The Directory will also
be available on-line at www.strathmoreglens.org
in the very near future, so up-to-date information will be readily available. The Fair is a new drive to attract volunteers and raise public awareness of opportunities available in Blairgowrie and District. There promises to be something for everyone. Exhibitors this year include the Strathmore Speakers Club, Tayside Energy Advice Project, Blairgowrie Youth Enquiry Service, The Go Project for Young People, Blairgowrie & District Paths Network, Tayside Police, The Association of Blairgowrie Craft Workers, Coupar Angus YWCA, The National Childbirth Trust, Blairgowrie & District Community Learning Plan, Business in the Community, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Meigle Community Council, Horseways, ABC Mother Unions and the Scottish Pensioners Forum to name but a few. Perth & Kinross Grants Direct will also be running a funding workshop from 11am to 1pm. With various competitions being held on the day, a face painter, a Highland Dance Exhibition and a Marching Pipe Band, we guarantee there should be something for everyone. Blair in Bloom will also be attending this year’s fair and there is to be a follow up to the very successful Bin It Campaign. Computers will also be available to raise awareness of the world wide web. There will also be displays from the Tayside Biodiversity Group, UK Online for Business and the Tayside Fire Service. Whilst Volunteer’s Week takes place the week commencing 7 June, the Fair will be an opportunity to say thank you to the many volunteers who will be attending the fair. Entry to the fair is free – further information is available from Sue Cole, 01828 640763.
