BETTER PLACE TO LIVE FAIR

Strathmore & the Glens Rural Partnership held their second Better Place to Live Fair in Blairgowrie on Saturday following last year’s successful event.

Rattray Marching Band marched from the Wellmeadow to the Town Hall where they were welcomed by John Swinney, MP.

Feedback to date has been excellent and clubs and societies are already asking to be involved in next year’s event.  Invaluable grant advice was available and given  from the Quality of Life Trust stand and Clubs found the fact that they could be referred to other participants for advice and assistance very helpful.  Information will shortly be available regarding the Grant Makers Forum which will be taking place in Blairgowrie in July and regularly thereafter.

The event also coincided with the start of Volunteering Week and help was on hand from Volunteer Development Scotland on how to find, retain and thank those exceptional members of the community.

There was something for everyone and the Community Dental Services puppet show, Smile with Spots and Stripes was a great hit with the younger visitors.

Entertainment was provided by local Schools and was of a very high standard.  Meigle School String Ensemble were a credit to Head Teacher John Scott who said  that many of the children had learnt their instruments as part of an after school activity.  The Kettins Recorder Group brought a hush to the hall as they performed.  They are due to play at the MOD next week and our best wishes go with them.  Kettins were followed by Rattray School who performed a ‘Scottish Surprise’ which consisted of  Scottish Poetry, singing, a demonstration of Scottish Country Dancing and a String Group.   Headteacher,  Mrs Kerr also joined in with the  children.  B & T Dance Academy who recently represented the area at the Royal Albert Hall in London gave  an excellent demonstration of their dancing skills.

Prizes were awarded for the Best Stand, Guess the Celebrity, Colouring Competition, Treasure Hunt, Lucky Questionnaire.

Strathmore and The Glens would also like to thank all the local businesses who donated gifts for the children’s raffle and provided a healthy snack for the children, to Mr Hill of Hill’s Florist for decorating the stage, and to all the participants without who the event would not have been successful.
