THE YEAR AHEAD

Strathmore & the Glens have a busy year ahead and have started the wheels in motion for a number of projects that they hope will inform local people and attract visitors to an area renowned for its beauty, sporting activities and quality of life.

Feedback on the website (www.strathmoreglens.org) has been very encouraging.  The site is continually being developed and we hope it will be a valuable resource to the area.  We currently have information about the role of the Partnership, What’s On in the area, Community Learning Plan, and links to other interesting sites.

Information is currently being compiled for the production of an up-to-date, user friendly, Local Resource Directory containing details of local groups and organisations.  We hope to be able to launch the Directory at this year’s Better Place to Live Fair on 1 June 2002.    The Directory is to be updated on a yearly basis and a copy is to be distributed to every household in the Strathmore & Glens area subject to funds being available.   A competition is also being organised for local school children to submit their designs for the cover.  We would therefore ask local organisations not to miss out on this opportunity to obtain a free entry in the Directory.  We are also looking at including a section on local businesses.

The Better Place to Live Fair, which continues to grow in popularity, is to be held on 1 June 2002.  The weekend of the fair is also the start of the Queens Golden Jubilee celebrations so no doubt there will be a ‘golden’ element incorporated into the fair.  Spaces for last year’s fair were quickly filled, so to avoid disappointment we suggest  you book early.  If you are interested in supporting the fair please contact Sue Cole on 01828 640763.

We are also looking at holding a series of E-commerce workshops for local businesses.  The workshops would be held in Blairgowrie in conjunction with UK online for Business and the aim would be to equip companies with information about how to make their own decisions on the advantages of all aspects of e-commerce.  We understand that it is not easy for local firms to get started or how to improve their existing e-commerce.   Whilst courses are available at the Small Business Gateway in Perth we recognise that it can be difficult for small business owners to take time to travel.  As a result we would like to hold a workshop locally which requires twelve people to attend.    Full details will shortly be available on the Strathmore & the Glens website but if you would like to register an interest please contact Sue Cole.

The Partnership are also designing a quarterly newsletter which we hope will go some way to ensure that each of the organisations we represent knows what all the other is up to.  This ensures that problems, successes and ideas can be shared and avoid duplication of effort.

Strathmore & the Glens are part of a rural framework at present unique in Scotland.   In order that we can represent you effectively we need to know your views.  We are here to facilitate self-help so let us help you get your ideas on paper of find funds, as our achievements are your achievements.

Strathmore & the Glens were successful in securing an additional £5,000 funding for the Blair in Bloom Committee, following which additional enhancements to the town could be made.

Further information about the role of the Rural Partnership can be obtained from the Chairman, John  Hart or Secretary, Sue Cole c/o Miller Gerrard, Solicitors,  The Studio, Blairgowrie PH10 6ET or on the website www.strathmoreglens.org.
