STRATHMORE & THE GLENS RURAL PARTNERSHIP REPORT

The Board of Strathmore and the Glens have been very busy over the Summer and have recently been successful in securing funds from the Rural Capacity Building Programme. We hope this will enable us to help kick start projects at a local level. This was a collaborative bid, submitted by the Strategic Rural Partnership in Perth & Kinross, to support the Capacity Building activities of the community based partnerships through supporting Community Capacity Building proposals.

To date Strathmore and the Glens have been involved in the following:

	Organised two Better Place to Live Fairs which raised the awareness of Local Agenda 21.
	Are organising a local Resource Directory listing community and voluntary organisations, programmes provided and how these can be accessed.
	Endeavouring to develop links with other like minded organisations and share best practice.
	Designing a website in order to keep rural dwellers and people with mobility difficulties up-to-date with local events/services. It will also promote the area and its businesses to a wider audience and encourage people to travel in to our area for goods and services.
	Will shortly be carrying out a review to identify the needs of the local business sector.
	Are organising a local funding surgery on 26 November to help local organisations find funds and complete the forms for community projects.
	Drawn up an Equal Opportunities Policy.
	Assisted a local Community Council with producing a News sheet.
	Obtained additional funding for the Blairgowrie in Bloom Committee.

Strathmore & the Glens will also be distributing energy saving light bulbs to the elderly at Blairgowrie Town hall on 25 September from 10am – 12 pm as part of Tayside Police’s ‘Elderly Awareness Week’.

We are also heavily involved in the Community Learning Plan Programme which is running two eight week courses in October on ‘Starting your Own Business’ and Complimentary Therapies.

Following the launch of the Tayside Local Biodiversity Action Plan which was launched at Battleby on Friday, we hope to be instrumental in getting local community projects off the ground.
