Rural Transport - Tuesday Freedom Service To book a journey call 01250 874246 (for further details see below): This service is a pilot door-to-door bus service for people who can't use public transport. It is promoted by a group of local community and voluntary organisations, led by Strathmore & the Glens Rural Partnership with the support of the Blairgowrie Freedom Coach Association. The service will run initially for 6 months from 5th July 2005, and if successful the Partnership hope to continue the service and develop further transport services. The Partnership would like to acknowledge the support of the Rural Community Transport Initiative and Perth & Kinross Council in funding this pilot service. What is the service? The Tuesday Freedom Service is designed to give people who need a little extra help the opportunity to access shopping and other services in Coupar Angus. Who is eligible to use the service? The service is available to senior citizens or anyone with a permanent or temporary disability who is unable to access public transport, either because of reduced mobility or because there is limited or no public transport available. The service is available to eligible residents in: Coupar Angus, Burrelton, Campmuir, Woodside, Kettins and Bendochy. What does it cost? There is a standard rate of £1.50 per passenger inclusive of all journeys made during the morning. There is no charge for carers. Where does it go? The bus will be available to pick people up from their door and take them to a destination of their choice within Coupar Angus, whether that is to a particular shop, the council office/library, the surgery, the dentist or to visit a friend. Journeys are also available, by arrangement, between destinations, such as between the shops and the surgery. The bus will then be able to return the passenger to their home if required. When does it run? At present on Tuesday mornings. Pick-ups in rural areas outwith Coupar Angus are from 9.00am. In Coupar Angus from 9.15am. Return journeys will commence from 11.15am or earlier by arrangement and if time allows. What if help is needed? The driver will be available to help people on or off the bus and to assist with loading shopping bags. The bus is accessible for people with a range of needs, and has a passenger lift, safety handrails and is wheelchair accessible. Hearing and guide dogs are welcome. Passengers are welcome to bring along a carer for support. To book a journey: Please phone the Freedom Coach Association driver, Charlie Bisset, on 01250 874246 who will be able to discuss your request and confirm pick up times.
