Blairgowrie Community Market Dates for 2008 are listed here. The market is run on a not for profit basis by Strathmore & the Glens Rural Partnership. When allocating stalls, priority will always be given to vendors from the local area. We are members of the The Scottish Association of Farmers' Markets www.scottishfarmersmarkets.co.uk. The market is intended to allow start-ups and very small craft based businesses an opportunity to promote their wares. As such we will try to ensure that there is as wide a variety of products available as possible and generally will be able to support up to 2 traders per product line. This may be varied at the market co-ordinators discretion. To book a stall please email Sue or telephone 01828 640763. History of the Market The Community Market is organised by Strathmore & the Glens Rural Partnership and first ran as a pilot in April 2003. By popular demand from both the community and local producers the markets continued for the rest of the year. The markets were run on a very tight budget as we realised very early that if the stalls were priced too high, local vendors would not be able to participate. The Community market has a number of aims:
The markets also promote the economic and environmental advantages of locally produced food where use of fossil fuels in transportation and wasteful packaging are kept to a minimum. Strathmore and the Glens were grateful to the Scottish Community Diet Project for their assistance in sponsoring events and competitions at the markets and the volunteers who gave their time freely to help with manning of the information stall and to the community for supporting the market. A very special thank you should also go to Tom McDonald and the Rattray School Marching Band Corps who, whatever the weather, attend the markets. Regular Stalls
